New to ChooseWeaver? ChooseWeaver Help is a short guide to everything in the app, from your first page to publishing.
ChooseWeaver
What you need. A Mac with macOS 13 Ventura or later (Apple silicon or Intel), or a PC with Windows 10 (version 1809 or later) or Windows 11. ChooseWeaver is now in beta on the Mac App Store and the Microsoft Store.
Reporting a problem. Tell us what you did, what you expected and what happened instead, and which version you have (Mac: ChooseWeaver > About ChooseWeaver; Windows: the Microsoft Store's app page). If you can, attach the story, zipped with File > Export Story Archive… We use what you send only to answer you.
Common questions
- I bought ChooseWeaver Unlimited. How do I get it back on a new computer, or after reinstalling?
Sign in to the store with the same account, then choose Restore Purchases: on the Mac it is in the ChooseWeaver menu, and on Windows in the Help menu.
- Why does ChooseWeaver say my story is too long to publish?
The free version publishes stories of up to 5 pages, the cover not counted, in every edition. Writing is never limited, and your story is never cut down or lost; ChooseWeaver Unlimited publishes it at any length.
- How do I read my story on a Kindle?
Export the EPUB, then send it to your Kindle with Amazon's Send to Kindle, or upload it to Kindle Direct Publishing to sell it. Each choice is a link: tap it and the Kindle turns to its page.
- In the print PDF, which page does “turn to page 42” mean?
The printed page: the number is the one printed on the page of the paper book, as in the classic gamebooks.
- Where are my stories?
Wherever you saved them. A story is an ordinary folder named after it, holding a
.cwstoryfile you can double-click to open. You can back it up or keep it in a sync folder like any other folder.- On the Mac, ChooseWeaver asks me to allow access to a folder.
The first time you open a story by double-clicking it, macOS asks once for permission to use the story's folder. Choose the folder it shows and click Allow. ChooseWeaver remembers it.
- Can I bring in a story from Twine?
Yes: File > New Story…, then Import from Twine. ChooseWeaver reads published Twine 2 stories, Twine 2 archives and Twee files. Each passage becomes a page and each link a choice, and a report lists anything that changed, such as macros taken out.
- Can I sell the stories I make?
Yes. You own your stories, and you may sell them: on the web, as an e-book or in print.
- Refunds.
Purchases are made through Apple or Microsoft, so refunds are too: Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, Microsoft through your Microsoft account's order history.
